Frequently asked questions
Welcome to Mrs. Ray's Music Lessons! I understand that choosing the right voice or piano teacher is an important decision. Here are some common questions that students often ask before embarking on their musical journey:
1. What styles of music do you teach for voice and piano lessons?
For voice lessons, I specialize in classical techniques and cover various genres including musical theatre, pop, and jazz. In piano lessons, I offer a diverse range, including classical and contemporary.
2. Do I need any prior experience in music to take lessons?
No prior experience is required. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, lessons are tailored to your skill level. I'll work with you to build a solid foundation and advance at a pace that suits you.
3. How long are the lessons?
Typically, lessons last 60 minutes for voice and piano lessons. However, for aspiring pianists under 5 years old who are receptive to lessons, I offer Mini Piano Lessons lasting 25 minutes. Although the general starting age for piano is five, if you have an advanced child under five, we can explore Mini Piano Lessons together to assess their readiness.
4. How often should I take lessons?
For optimal progress, weekly lessons are recommended. However, the frequency can be adjusted based on your schedule and preferences.
5. What age groups do you teach?
I welcome students of all ages. Whether you're a child, teenager, or adult, it's never too early or too late to start your musical journey.
6. Is there a commitment period for lessons?
While there is no mandatory long-term commitment, I recommend scheduling the first lessons with a recurring frequency, whether it's weekly or bi-weekly. This consistency helps create a structured and beneficial learning experience. However, you are free to adjust or end your commitment to lessons at any time, ensuring flexibility and convenience tailored to your needs.
7. How does the billing process work?
Invoices are sent three days before each lesson week, and payment is due on the lesson day. A one-day grace period is provided, after which a late fee of $5.99 will be added. Reminders are sent two days before, on the lesson day, a day after (the one-day grace period), and three days after the due date. This ensures a smooth billing process without any surprises. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
8. Is there a cancellation policy?
Yes, I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. While I don't offer refunds for missed lessons, I'll do my best to accommodate a rescheduled lesson within the same week if a time slot is available.
More details are available in the cancellation policy section.
9. How does lesson material work, and are there any additional fees?
For lessons, specific materials, such as books, may be required, and I'll handle the initial purchase. During the lesson, you can reimburse me for the cost. Additionally, there might be small fees for printing or copying materials, which I'll always discuss with you beforehand. Rest assured, you will never be charged for material without prior discussion, ensuring transparency and an upfront understanding of any additional costs. This approach is designed to make your learning experience smooth and budget-friendly.
New students who have paid the Registration and Material Fee are exempt from the above, as this fee covers all material expenses.
10. Do I need to have a piano?
To make the most of piano lessons, having access to a keyboard or piano is essential for practicing between sessions. Having a dedicated instrument allows you to apply and reinforce what you learn during our in-person sessions. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need guidance on choosing an instrument that suits your needs and space.
11. Are there performance opportunities for students?
Absolutely! I plan to hold a recital during the summertime, providing a platform for students to showcase their progress and gain valuable performance experience.
12. How do I get started?
It's simple! Contact me to schedule a consultation. During this session, we can discuss your goals, assess your current skill level, and tailor a plan that suits your musical aspirations.
Feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or if there's something specific you'd like to discuss. I look forward to being part of your musical journey!
